People waited in line for hours... They stood, shifting side to side, to pass the time.. Taking a few steps forward every few minutes...
But why do that? Why hurry to try to be first in line? You're only going to be hugely disappointed to see once you get there, that about 200 other people had the same thought as you, just a few minutes sooner.
You're not going to just give up and go home; you came all this way...
You tummy growls as you are contemplating whether to join the line or not; converting your thoughts to personal scolding for not eating something before leaving...
That's it!
I will wait, not in the line, but at a restaurant!
After a few hours pass, you are contently rolling your full of food self back to the line up... To see that it is down to 5 people, who look worn out from all that waiting, and lack of evening nutrition.
They glare at you for what they think is your first arrival to this line, looking all cheery... You catch their glare and know exactly what it means, so you offer them a few words of advice: "Why wait in line, when you can eat food!"

To everyone who had to wait in line:
SUCKERS !!! :P
But the risk with that strategy is to come back to a still huge line or getting there too late.
This time it turned out to be a great strategy but maybe next time you won't get that lucky.
